The TILE BOOST story
After 15 years of installing tile, one day, Greg thought to himself, “there’s got to be a better way to install thin mosaic tile bands on walls.” Setters would use temporary ledger boards to hold up the field tile above the mosaic tile band area, come back the next day and remove the ledger, and install the mosaic but that cost them an extra trip and an extra day. And setters still had to deal with mortar ooze and keeping the mosaic flat due to too much mortar behind thin tile.
Or they would build up the substrate with mortar, let it dry overnight, then set the thin mosaic tile over that, and come back the next day to set the field tile above that. It was a major waste of time and money.
So, he did some mental design work and slowly fumbled his way toward making a crude drawing, followed by a crude model, followed by a very nice (but expensive) 3D printed shim. Then Covid came and made everything so volatile and unsettled the project and progress was tabled for two years.
But over the past couple of years, the passion and effort was rekindled. Greg is thrilled that there is now a very efficient, very affordable way to install thin mosaic tile bands on vertical surfaces: TILE BOOST!
TILE BOOST is a waterproof wide-format shim that boosts thin mosaic tile OUT to plane (while keeping it super flat) AND boosts thick field tile UP (allowing same-day tiling above the mosaic).
